Our first visit with my 8-year-old was an outstanding experience. From the moment we walked in, it was clear Dr Mahony was prepared, running on time, and had carefully reviewed my son’s case in advance. He explained everything clearly and confidently, using computer images to show realistic before-and-after outcomes, which made the plan easy to understand. Prior to this, we had been told elsewhere that nothing could be done until puberty and that surgery would likely be required. Hearing that was incredibly disheartening. Dr Mahony offered a completely different approach, explaining how early intervention is possible and what can be done now. I left feeling genuinely relieved, informed, and hopeful, and confident we are in the best hands.
EDITED: What started well, turned.ade second appt which I was led to believe would be the appt where we get the proposed plan that we could take to our Orthodontist who works with Dr Mahoney closer to home. I had previously advised that my son struggles with long car journeys (home to FF is 2hrs for us) and if we could potentially do via facetime only to be told it must be in person and we will also be meeting the surgeon for down the road treatment (3yrs out). We arranged time off work and school for all 3 of us to attend as requested. When we arrived, we were shuffled into Dr mahoneys tiny office along with him and the surgeon for all of 2mins where the surgeon took a 30sec look at my sons teeth. Then went into the practice managers office to recieve a referral to surgeon and to pay $240 for the 2min visit and no plan. Then told the next appt would be the plan discussion which would cost again $240! I lost all trust in these extortionists who paid no heed to our situation and clearly only see $$$. THEN when I requested my sons entire file, images, X-rays I was sent a release form WITH ANOTHER FAMILY'S INFORMATION IN IT which is a complete breach of privacy. Zero trust, zero faith in this practice. DO NOT Recommend AT ALL. Both my son and I are on the spectrum and I in particular struggle at the dentists and my son struggles with too much going on and sensitivities orally. Despite being busy when we attended, they were still handling this nervous mummas every question with care and clarity. I did find Dr Mahoney rushed through and referred me to the practice manager for my questions, however all his support staff were friendly. My only other gripe was the pre-assessment I had completed hadnt gone through so I had to manually complete a form and I got 2x confirmation requests within 2 days for the appt.
This is not an orthodontist practice. This is a money making scheme. Almost all the positive reviews are written by people (other orthodontists) who attend his lectures/courses. They get discounts for leaving the reviews. I had MSE and braces done here. My experience with the MSE treatment was beyond horrible. After talking to the orthodontist at multiple appointments if the treatment has failed due to literally having loose screws in my palate for weeks and weeks…. They always said “thats normal”…. It is not normal. The fact the screws were falling out and were heavily bent seems to indicate a failed treatment. They never addressed or explained anything… just “thats normal”. I felt like no one cared/bothered to explain why I had to experience the screws coming out every time I ate a meal and almost swallowing the screws. The lack of care was horrific. I felt like they just wanted my money and didn’t care about any negative complications of their treatments. Just get things done with the least amount of effort/care possible. Before having the MSE installed I had a… nurse? do a 3d model scan of my teeth/palate. The lady had 0 clue what she was doing, had to leave the room to make calls on how to do it, and still failing to complete this scan. I was there for an hour and a half and had to leave because it was getting ridiculous. Came back another day and it was done in minutes by an actual experienced person who knew what they were doing. No apologies or acknowledgement of what happened with the totally inexperienced nurse. When you spend $17,000 on these treatments you expect far better than this monkey business. If I could go back I would have never spent my money here… on top of the half a dozen referrals I was sent to for pointless other treatments. The whole experience was a total joke and a massive waste of money. I urge anyone who is considering to get treatment here to go elsewhere.. this clinic is only good for wasting your time and money.
Very painful experience. The orthodontists have no clue as to what they are doing. My braces' wire keeps coming out which causes extreme discomfort and pain. This has caused bleeding and ulcers in my mouth. I would love to get a refund on my braces. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Dishonest, inaccurate advice!! After spending $1000+ on consultations, xrays & sleep study, the review of results was rushed through with Dr Mahoney, then I was handed over to his staff to explain costs & lock me into a contract. Full Face Orthodontics recommended my son to have Hyrax expansion, then full set of braces. My intuition told me to get a second opinion. I got 2 second opinions & both orthodontists advised NOT to expand my son's pallet (did not cost me a cent at either). His pallet is wide enough which was also the advice my general dentist gave me. Dr Mahoney also referred me to a dental surgeon who only extracts wisdom teeth in a chair not under general anaesthesia. This was recommended for a 13yo.. I wish I was never referred to him by Myofacial Thetapist Hannah Crawford. I believe that it's a money making referral scheme. I wish I hadn't wasted so much money at the clinic. I do not trust the advice given at this clinic & I'm glad that I trusted my intuition otherwise I would have wasted $15000 more!

Bulk billing dental services are limited in the Melbourne CBD due to high commercial rents. Most practices are private-fee, though many offer gap-free check-up packages through Bupa, Medibank, and HCF that effectively bulk bill the check-up component. The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne on Swanston Street in adjacent Carlton is the main public dental provider for eligible patients including children, concession card holders, and DVA card holders.
