We attended Enhance Dentistry when our son was 8 weeks old for a consultation regarding possible tongue, lip and buccal (cheek) ties and to potentially have them laser released. While the midwives we interacted with were kind, warm and caring, our experience overall left us feeling extremely vulnerable and unsupported as new parents. During the assessment, the dentist and midwife stood directly in front of us while typing on a computer and verbally listing everything they believed was “wrong” with our son. It felt incredibly clinical and insensitive, especially for first-time parents already navigating a stressful and emotional stage of life. My partner eventually asked, “So is there actually anything right with our son?” and the response was simply that this was “just procedure.” There was very little reassurance or balance in the conversation, and we left that part of the appointment feeling worried and deflated. The procedure itself was thankfully very quick, however the consultation afterwards was what impacted us the most. The dentist strongly insisted that I continue breastfeeding “for this to properly work.” I explained multiple times that I had previously undergone a breast reduction and my milk ducts had not regrown, meaning breastfeeding was not physically sustainable for me or my baby considering as he grows, he would need more milk. Despite this, the advice continued in a way that felt dismissive of my circumstances and lacking in empathy. I was also told I was feeding my baby incorrectly and that another breastfeeding position would be better. I explained that due to the placement of my nipples following surgery, the hold I was using had actually been the most successful and comfortable for both myself and my baby, but again this was largely dismissed. What upset us most was the repeated suggestion that if we did not persist with breastfeeding, our son’s oral development, sleep and even brain development could be negatively impacted long-term. The implication being made felt extremely distressing. My partner then asked directly , “So, you’re saying that scientifically it’s proven that all breastfed babies are more intelligent?” to which the dentist replied “no,” contradicting the messaging we had just been given. We left the appointment feeling like failures as parents rather than supported or empowered. As vulnerable new parents, bedside manner and communication matter enormously, particularly when discussing feeding, infant development and maternal health. For balance, our son went on to be exclusively bottle-fed, has continued to sleep well, has met all milestones appropriately and is a thriving, happy child. I am sharing this review not to discourage parents from seeking support if they feel ties are affecting feeding, but to encourage new mothers and families to trust their instincts and seek practitioners who provide evidence-based advice with compassion, sensitivity and respect for individual circumstances.

Please do your research on other places. We took our 3 month old baby here for tongue tie release. After the 4 weeks of properly doing the stretches and seeing a Chiro it reattached. They took so long to get back to us and wiped their hands of us. So we went to another place to have it re-cut and I can’t speak highly of this other place. Enhance told us he didn’t need his cheeks done. Our chiropractor was confused as to why not as he held so much tension in them. The other place showed us all the cheek ties that enhance should have had cut. He’s a completely different kid after the second procedure. They just want your money. Way better places out there just look at all your options before you go here.
